The Saturday that the ET capture took place, January 20th æ96, I wasnÆt in Varginha. The day after, Jan 21st, I arrived at about 10: 30 a.m. and received a call from a storekeeper who owns a shop in the center of the town, Mr. Milton. He asked if I had knowledge of what happened the day before and told me that ô... some girls had seen a weird animal, something like a little monsterö. (...)

That same night, as I realized that the rumour was already spreaded throughout the city, I called Milton again to get further details. (...) An employee of his shop would have more information. (...) She knew the people that had seen the strange being. (...) The girls live at Rua Tapaj≤s [ Tapaj≤s Street ] , Varginha, to where I went. (...) I asked a near storekeeper if she knew the girls, she said so, adding that "she had also observed the movement around that area regarding the case". This lady said she was friend of Luisa (the girlsÆ mother) and that she was told the girls arrived at home scared, that afternoon. They were screaming, crying and shaking. They had seen something very ugly. (...)

Meanwhile, the rumours continue to spread through the city. Some people said the creature had been captured and taken to the "Hospital Regional" [Regional Hospital], that it had a big belly, seemed to be pregnant, and made a noise, like if it was crying. (...)

FIRST WEEK OF INVESTIGATIONS - I began to investigate and was helped by a friend (...) , SΘrgio, director of TV Princesa, a local TV station. WeÆve got access to a boy that said he was present at the capture. But his words didnÆt make any sense, he was too childish, and very confused. (...) We also have got access to a woman, which runned away the moment we approached her. Her husband tried to convince her to give us some info, but she refused. (...)

Finally, we found the girls and took their testimony. They were two sisters whose mother, Mrs.Luisa, received me a little suspicious. I identified myself as an UFO researcher and lawyer, and explained my interest in the situation. (...) IÆve got extremely impressed with what they told me, specially the older girl, Liliane, 16. When she was telling me what happened, she burst into tears. (...) Then, I asked them to introduce me to the third witness : her friend, Katia, 22, that also cried when we met.

I asked them to take me to the place where all had happened. (...) They told that when they were in the middle of that pathway, they saw a strange being squatted in the ground (...). To Valquφria, the younger, ôthat appeared to be a giant ox heartö. (...) They realized that it was something out-of-this-world, when they returned to the street and went away, running.

(...) After hearing all the story from her daughters, Luφsa returned to the place to see if she could find any evidence, but she didnÆt. (...) Luφsa felt a strange smell, very strong and impossible to be compared to anything else. The following days, I kept on talking to them, and asked them to repeat several times what they had seen.

AN EXTRATERRESTRIAL AT THE HOSPITAL - This procedure is common in researches, because it helps to find contradictions in the testimonies. (...) Meanwhile, the rumours continued to spread, increase, and gained consistency in Varginha. The whole city started to comment on the story. (...) In Varginha, there are three hospitals, however the rumours converged only to the Regional Hospital. It wasnÆt possible to be sure of anything, specially about which hospital would be involved with the fact. Everything was obscure, until I managed to talk to a nurse of Regional Hospital (which name cannot be revealed, in order to preserve her safety). She was very reluctant to receive and talk to me until, finally, she accepted to be interviewed. She revealed that, on Sunday, January 21st, a strange movement occurred at Hospital Regional . The fact involved physicians coming from out of Varginha, the Military Police and Army vehicles. However, she didnÆt speak a word about the Fire Department. (...) One of the hospital sections , according to our source, was closed for some hours, in order to avoid the access of employees, patients and visitors. She also said that, on Monday, January 22nd, she was called, together with other employees, for a meeting at the directorÆs room. According to her testimony, the director said that all that movement should be ignored, because "it was just a training for the doctors and military personnel". (...)

According to this witness, the meeting culminated with the following statement from the director : ôHere in Varginha there are people who like to deal with ôcoolö things, I mean, supernatural, strange ... It is probable that these people will look for you, specially that lawyer, Ubirajara. To these people, you must deny everything. I mean , do denyö.

Later, I spoke to a former pupil of mine, who said she had been at the hospital entrance hall that Sunday, by 10: 30 p.m., together with a friend of her. She asked the receptionist if it was true what the rumours said about the ôlittle monsterö received at the hospital. The employee confirmed , saying that the being wasnÆt there anymore, because it had been removed to another city hospital, the ôHumanitasö. So, the women went there, too. Now, they were attended by a nurse who told them the following : ôYou cannot go inside to see æthatÆ and, even if you could, I wouldnÆt advise you to ... you wouldnÆt like to see itö.

The same time, some parallel witnesses, which live in Humanitas region, said they had seen troops movements at the lateral gate. This was everything I knew then. It was necessary to have stronger evidences. So I tried the military area, firstly Commander Mauricio, from the Military Police. When I met him, I identified myself and explained the situation. I asked him if he had knowledge of the rumours that the MP was involved in the capture case. His answer was negative.

He, then, offered to check it out , and verified that there were no records of such occurrence. Even thus, he asked me to contact him again, because perhaps he would find something. The next day, as it was scheduled, I called Commander Mauricio, but he didnÆt attend me. I made about 50 phone calls to the quarter, but wasnÆt attended. So I began to feel that something was wrong. They were hiding something.

A friend of mine managed to talk to a policewoman that was on duty at Saturday, January 20th, receiving the emergency calls, thru the number 190 [the police number] . She revealed there were some calls : ôIn fact, some people called saying that they saw such a little monster, but we thought they were kidding and we didnÆt give attention to themö. (...)

SEEKING THE FIRE DEPARTMENT - Me and SΘrgio looked for the local Fire Brigade and we were received by Captain Alvarenga. (...) The moment we identify ourselves, he got the bulletin of ocurrences for Jan. 20th, in order to æproveÆ there were no requests for the capture of a strange animal, or something. He simply had a deffensive attitude regarding us.

During the interview, I excused myself and made a brief pause to drink some water, at the end of the corridor. I saw there two firemen talking, speaking loudly and fluently, as if they were making fun of me : ôYeah, it should be a giant frogö, one said. ôNo, it should be a demon, ha ha haö, completed the other.

(...) We followed to the Forest Police, where we were received in a very different manner. Their captain was friendly and said he likes Ufology. (...) He stated that the Forest Police werenÆt called at that occasion, but put himself on the line to share any further information.

We came back again to the nurse. (...) She spoke with her colleagues in the hospital and, although they hadnÆt seen anything, they were all unanimous in state that there were a strange movement that day. (...)

Meanwhile, the information that a strange being appeared in Varginha had already taken the local media. All the local press, newspapers, radio and TV stations had already covered the case, although I had my doubts about spreading the case in the [brazilian] national media. (...) Nevertheless, due to the difficulties of the investigation and the big cover-up, there was no other choice than calling the national media. Only this way we could pressure the authorities.

The same occasion, I was interviewed live at the request of Globo TV Network (local branch) . Everything was going normal (...). In the middle of the program, however, something we werenÆt expecting happened. The reporter took two faxes from over the table and talked : ôWe just received right now a communication from the Fire Department and another one from the Regional Hospital, denying everything. These two institutions say they werenÆt called and had no involvement with itö. Part of the Fire Brigade fax did the following statement : ôThis corporation communicate the people of Varginha that was NOT called to capture an extraterrestrialö. This was said in the middle of the news.

I said, firstly, that I never affirmed the captured being was alien. I ' ve said only that it was an unknown and strange being. IÆm very careful with the words. (...) I made use of that chance and said that the UFO cover-up is such a thing that exists all over the world and started a long time ago.

After this interview, I decided to call the national media. (...) I called the ufologist Irene Granchi, in Rio de Janeiro, who contacted the journalism production of Globo TV Network [Note from translator : Globo TV is the major brazilian TV network]. Since then, the case blew wide open in the [brazilian] media. (...)

At the end of the second week of investigations, I called ôRevista UFOö [UFO Magazine] and let them know the facts. In the third week, a researcher from Belo Horizonte (up to then member of CICOANI - Centro de Investigaτπo Civil sobre Objetos AΘreos Nπo Identificados - Unidentified Aerial Objects Civilian Investigation Center) made contact with me. It was Vitorio Pacaccini. Since then we established a partnership in the researches, that now lasts over four months. (...)

- Part 2 - by Vitorio Pacaccini

Before the Varginha Case appears in the media, I didnÆt know Ubirajara yet. (...) At first, I was investigating the case for CICOANI and had already contacted some people I knew from TrΩs Coraτ⌡es, MG [State of Minas Gerais] in order to gather information about the case, specially at ESA (Escola de Sargentos das Armas - Army Sergeants School). This happened in the beginning of February. On Wednesday, in the carnival week, I received a call from a source who said that ôit was time to the jaguar to drink the waterö. In our language, it means that some important witness was about to talk.

The name of the witness, by now and for a while, cannot be revealed. I donÆt want to put anybody in jail or harm peopleÆs lives. (...)

So, on this Wednesday, I went to a friendÆs home where he introduced me to the first witness. (...) After some minutes of conversation, this military began to speak about the subject.

FIRE FIGHTERS ARE REALLY INVOLVED - Everyone in Brazil knows that when there is a problem with animals, like a wild beast escaping from the Zoo, for instance, the Fire Department is called. (...) However, the first phone number that comes to oneÆs mind in a danger situation is 190 (the police number). So, weÆve concluded that firstly the police were called and then, they forwarded it to the Fire Brigade.

According to our source, in the morning of January 20th, the Fire Dept. phone was ringing over and over. It was people informing the appearance of a weird animal in a certain region in Varginha, and requesting some attitude, to catch it. It is important to emphasize that these phone calls started very early that morning, between 7 and 8 a.m., consequently before 3 p.m., when the girls sighted the creature.

In the occasion, the man in charge was Major Maciel, who would have sent four men to check the situation. These firemen, at the moment they arrived there, called the major thru the radio and asked him to go there too, once the case was much more complicated than it seemed before. ôMajor, youÆd better come here, Sir . Even the Army is already hereö. So, the Major followed to the place, approximately at 10,30 a.m. .

When they reached there, the capture had already been done. There were some people, including children that throwed some stones towards the creature . (...) The four firemen (...) caught the being with a net (similar to that used to catch dogs). They were using common gloves, but were afraid of radiation. The creature didnÆt show any reaction, staying totally apathetic and letting himself to be caught. It made a noise similar to the bees buzzing. It was put in a canvas-covered box and transported by an Army truck.

This witness is extremely trustworthy, knows everyone in the Fire Department and got access to several classified information. However, he is very afraid of revealing what he knows even to his closest people, due to the dangerous situation.

According to the description, the creature had sticky skin (seeming to have put an oil on the body), red eyes, big head with protuberances, long and thin arms, short and thin legs, big feet and a big salience at the abdomen. It had no kind of clothing, as well as no apparent genitals. In the ESA truck that conducted the being, there were two seargents and one major, all of them with æga·choÆ accent [Note from T.: ga·cho = somebody who was born or lives in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul] . All these information were given in a 45-minute interview. The witness was emphatic, saying that the Fire Department command had knowledge of the whole operation, and that Captain Alvarenga simply lied when he said he didnÆt receive any notification.

All of this reveals that somebody is lying in this case and it seems that itÆs not the witnesses ... - because they wouldnÆt gain anything with it. (...)

I made contact with other military witnesses from TrΩs Coraτ⌡es in secret meetings. One of them, by the way, went to my house at 3 a. m. together with his wife. He explained to me how the ArmyÆs Secret Service works. It has a very-well-implanted unity in the city, with people taking turns over and over, in order not to be recognized. These ôS-2ö, as they are known, blend with the civilians, often use mustaches, long hairs, drive old cars and behave as civilians.

This one that came to my house said the capture had been extremely favorable to the Army, because it happened in a weekend (when ESA stays practically empty, only with guards) and also due to the fact that the secret service members could enter or leave at any time, without giving explanation to anybody. Inside ESA, there is a shed where the S-2 works, surrounded by enormous security. Even the quarterÆs officers have no access to that place. (...)

WeÆve had a good support from the media, (...) which is trying to show the facts as they are. If the media, or I should better say, part of it, like Luiz Petry (director of ôFantßsticoö) [ôFantasticö - brazilian popular TV show, aired by Globo Network] , didnÆt run for it, seeking information, everything would have finished with no explanation. (...)

UFOs FLYING OVER SOUTHERN MINAS GERAIS - While the Varginha case blew wide open in national press, it began a big UFO wave over the region. Cities such as Varginha, Alfenas, Boa Esperanτa, TrΩs Coraτ⌡es, Bandeira do Sul, Sπo Gonτalo do Sapucaφ, Campanha and many others were taken by unidentified objects sightings. The population noticed that something serious was happening and several people came to us reporting sightings, contacts or recent news about the capture.

At that time, end of February, I met an old friend that I hadn't seen for a long time. He knew a military that was involved with the capture operation. We managed to meet him and heard his report. The more he revealed, the more everything became incredible. This military man gave the names of people directly involved with the case : Colonel Olφmpio Vanderlei and Sergeant Pedrosa. The interview with this eye witness of the facts was made by me and ufologist Marco A. Petit , AND RECORDED IN VIDEO as a guarantee of proof. In this tape, we ask the witness if there is the possibility of somebody attempting against his life, and he said so . (...)

More witnesses are discovered. Later, we managed to contact another military witness. He was very reluctant in speaking with us, but when he realized the subject was already spreaded, he got courage to tell what he knew. For his surprise, nobody at ESA knew anything, because there was a disinformation operation inside the Sergeant's School itself. Talking with us, he described the fact exactly the same way that the other did before.

Only few people inside ESA know details of the operation. (...) Everything there is top secret. The school's military contingent is over 3.000 men and, for sure, about 98 % of them don't know anything.(...) There are also other military witnesses which confirm the information we have. We know two people that have been directly involved with the catch and transport of the being. Obviously, they cannot be identified, because their lives would be in danger. (...)

NAMES OF THE PEOPLE INVOLVED - After we placed together all the information on the case, we obtained the names of military personnel directly involved with the case : Lieutenant-Colonel Olφmpio Vanderlei, Captain Ramires, Lieutenant TibΘrio (from the Army Police) and Sargeant Pedrosa. We also know the names of the three drivers : Corporal Vassalo, Soldier Cirilo and Soldier De Mello.

They met a Lieutenant from S-2, who arrived in a white brown Volkswagen (Fusca-type) and stopped beside the "Paes Mendonτa" supermarket, in Varginha. This lieutenant sent all of them, by Fusca, to the Humanitas Hospital, where they did some kind of secret operation. (...)

(...) Arriving at the hospital, there was a wooden box tied on two trestles, and one of the S-2 agents was carrying a camcorder. The other military men received orders to take their jackets off and were forbidden of using voice recorders, cameras or camcorders. At that time, Military Police and Fire Department vehicles have been seen at the hospital's entry yard with six men, as well as two men from the Army's secret service and some physicians.

The dead creature was put inside the box, which was closed by a plastic canvas and placed into the truck. The truck body covering have been strenghtened in order to really hide the being. At that time, specially on January 22nd, the whole city was commenting on the strange ESA trucks' movements. It was impossible not to notice that... everyone commented and the rumours increased.

The convoy's route to TrΩs Coraτ⌡es was easy. Reaching the city, there were already policemen waiting and holding the traffic. It seems that the convoy's drivers didn't know what they were transporting. One of them, in his testimony, said he thought it was a burnt man, a suicide, or something. He also said the creature had a terrible bad smell. Because there were three trucks involved, we suppose that, maybe, there were three creatures. But this can't be said for sure. (...)

By 4 a.m., the same convoy followed to Campinas, where - according to our sources - the creature have been necropsied. At this time, there have been a meeting with some officers, when it was emphasized that all this operation was secret, classified (...) and all must be kept in silence.

The soldiers arrived at Campinas by morning. (...) Even an Engesa-type Jeep, war model, was used in the convoy, among other military trucks. We don't know yet exactly to what military unit in Campinas the convoy was destinated. Reaching the destiny, the box took another direction, which is still unknown.

(...) We have concluded that they transported the creature to Campinas in order to put it on the hands of a professional from Unicamp [University of Campinas, a well-recognized brazilian university]. According to our investigation , this professional is one of the most respected legists in Brazil and internationally known. We have got access to this information trough a scientist of Unicamp, whose name must remain anonymous. This scientist even said he went to Varginha, where he picked soil samples and local vegetation from the place the being was sighted. Thus, it became obvious that the creature had been taken to this university. (...) There are no doubts that Unicamp is involved in the case.

Our scientist talked to some teachers, close people who often visit his house, and knew that there are orders from the [brazilian] government, not to speak a word about the subject. As they told him, the head of the university is also oriented to keep this operation secret. The sources, that are reliable, say that the legist physician Badan Palhares (who is responsible for important necropsies, like the Nazi Joseph Mengele one) did the first necropsy in the creature. (...)

Regarding to the number of beings captured, it's still obscure. Analyzing the probabilities, we can say that there are at least two beings : the first was captured at 10 a.m. by the military forces, and the second was sighted by the girls at about 3 p.m.. (...)

We already know how the first creature was captured, at 10 :30 a.m., involving the Police, the Army and the Fire-Fighters. But what about the second ? How did it happen ? As the witnesses revealed, it occurred at about 8 p.m. that saturday, and it involved, this time, the Military Police secret service [Note from T. : also known as "P-2"] and the Fire Department. This capture was much more discreet than the first, because the military arrived in plain clothes and using civilian cars. The creature was in an area near the woods, where the military surrounded and caught it.

This information came from a well-known lady who lives in the city, member of the Varginha's "high society", that heard that a police soldier had caught the creature. This being would have been taken to the closest local medical station, where the doctor that was on duty advised them to take him to the hospital.

AN EXTRATERRESTRIAL IN TWO VARGINHA HOSPITALS - There are evidences that the captured creature, for some reason, have been taken to the Regional Hospital. But the men in charge of the operation must have concluded that that place was too central and not safe, deciding to take the being to a better place : the Humanitas Hospital, which is more well equipped and is located in a region far from the center of the town. This hospital lies beside a little peripherical road, which leads directly to the "Fernπo Dias" Highway [Note from T. : which links Belo Horizonte to Sπo Paulo]. It made the transportation very easy and discreet.

ARE THEY RIGHT ? - A source we have in Campinas said that Brazil is under strong pressure, warning that we may be sat over an atom bomb. According to his testimony, the whole capture and cover-up process goes deeper and deeper, beyond we can imagine So, we ask : (...) are they right ? Will it be true that some kind of battle between alien and military forces had already happened ? Shouldn't be the Army the right channel to deal with this matter ? (...) And shouldn't be this whole operation classified ?

From our point-of-view, they could share with us the information they have. (...) We'd love to help them, but it seems to be impossible.

(...) What if an UFO crashed in my yard, who am I supposed to call ? Obviously, the first thing I would do was to call the military authorities, because that's their job. As a matter of fact, we are concerned because we're reaching the conclusion that the Varginha Case is only the tip of an iceberg.

On the other side, the right to know must be respected. (...)

AN ALIEN IN VARGINHA ? - There isn't in ufology's alien classification a being with such characteristics like that of the one saw in Varginha. That's something important to the world' s Ufology. This emphasizes the possibility of a genetically adapted creature, whose aim was to do some operation among us, terrestrials. (...)

(...) It is very likely that the Varginha ET was some kind of animal created only to conclude a mission, which is still unknown to us. Or perhaps it would be some kind of probe, patrol, or monitoring of the human race. Ufology's classification is something relative. (...)

(...) The classification has a wide variety, but much of it is due to the different interpretations made by the people who describe and draw the beings.

Two reporters here from Varginha were searched by a person who identified himself as the-cousin-of-a-son-of-a-military-man-from-ESA. This military's son would have got access to a film made at ESA showing the creature (or the creatures) and showed it to his cousin, who offered to SBT [Note from T.: SBT = Sistema Brasileiro de Televisπo - Brazilian Television System, the second major TV Network in Brazil] for 70.000 reais [or 68.000 U.S. dollars]. Since then, the price have been reduced. There had been a negotiation process with SBT, involving the SBT board of directors in Sπo Paulo, in order to get the movie. The young boy visited himself the local SBT station, but they didn't reach any deal. Some time later, he said it wouldn't be possible to do it, because some people were suspecting of him and he was in life danger.

This coincided with the fact that, on the same week, a Varginha citizen, with a good reputation in the city, came to us. He said that his 16-year old daughter and her school friend - daughter of a policeman from the M.P. - would have watched a "horrible" film that her father brought home. It was about the captured creature. As the girl's father realized the situation was dangerous, he vanished with the tape ...

We know this tape exists, and for obvious reasons : witnesses had already informed us that in the capture day one of the military men was using a camcorder. (...) We have had many evidences that this film is here in Varginha. (...)

- What the other (brazilian) UFO researchers think about the case -

Editor A.J. Gevaerd : UFO Magazine went to the 14 th Brazilian Congress on Scientific Ufology, which took place in Curitiba, PR [State of Paranß], last June 6-9 1996, in order to gather some impressions from the researchers about Varginha case. See what these researchers think about this subject.

Irene Granchi - : " The case presents a new angle in UFO research. I believe in its authenticity, because I interviewed the three girls who saw the being and they're NOT lying. I' ve been known ufologist Ubirajara Rodrigues for many years and I trust his work and seriousness. (...)"

(...) " What we have here are many circumstantial evidences. Thus, we realize that the case is very well documented with these evidences. Regarding UFO cover-up, I think the military authorities don't have the right to do this, because we live in a democracy. (...) ".

Varginha Case is bigger than Roswell - by Reginaldo de Athayde

" The Varginha Case is one of the most important UFO cases ever happened in the entire world. I see we have something superior to what happened in Roswell (...). I hope our friends, researchers from Minas Gerais state, join the other ufologists in order to get what we always desired : to prove the reality of UFOs, the existence of these mysterious objects that come here to visit us. (...)".

Case increases Ufology's credibility - by Claudeir Covo

" Without any doubt, Varginha Case is the case number one in Brazil. The seriousness that the researchers are showing when conducting the information and the work itself increases the credibility of Ufology. If we consider only the quantity of information already compiled, the richness of details and the several witnesses that have already appeared, we see that this case let Roswell very little."

" The Roswell Case took about 30 years to become known to the public, while Varginha's leaked out at the first days. The researches are very well conducted, with several military testimonies in our hands, besides many contradictory authorities statements given to the press. This proves there is a cover-up process. (...) These military witnesses had the courage to trust in the researchers, revealing what they knew and secretly recording it in video, giving important details ".

Varginha Case : There is still a lot to be said - by Edson Boaventura Jr.

" It's the most important case of Brazilian Ufology and also worldwide, due to its implications (...). I'd say that even Roswell cannot be compared to Varginha Case which is bigger than it. I say this because I know that what have been shown by the media is only a short part of what exists. There is still a lot to be said, but this haven't been done yet because some details, if revealed, could identify the military witnesses. Because of this ethical reason, the researchers involved in this investigation are NOT revealing all the information they have. " .

" Once I'm very close to the investigation, I see that the research is well documented, with testimonies of civilian and military witnesses that prove what happened on January 20 th and on the following days. Even now, several months after the case, there are many details still coming up to the surface, as many other witnesses gain courage and start to reveal what they know to the researchers ".(...)

For instance, the ammonia-like smell felt either in the place the girls sighted the being, either in the city's Hospital. (...) " I had knowledge of this case thru the media. Since then, I made many contacts with researcher Ubirajara Franco Rodrigues, who informed me it was really serious, involving a very strong cover-up operation. I' ve been in Varginha twice. There, I confirmed that this was the most important case of the Brazilian Ufology. I had the chance, one of the times, of being face to face to one of the military witnesses, who was directly involved with the operation. His testimony was extremely striking, showing the richness of details that involved the being capture. We have to support Pacaccini and Ubirajara's work, in a definitive way, because this case is unique. "

" In the beginning, I heard about the case thru the news gathered by GUG [GUG - Grupo Ufol≤gico do Guarujß - Guarujß (in State of Sπo Paulo) Ufological Group]. On May 1996, I had the opportunity to go to Varginha (...). I thought it was too early to call theses creatures as aliens, because there were no evidences they had came from a ship."

" Now, there are also evidences that a ship have been recovered in the place. I think it's very likely, because only two or three days after the girls have sighted the being, Bandeirantes TV AIRED A REPORT on this subject : some people would have observed the RECOVERY OF A CREATURE FROM THE WRECKAGE OF AN OBJECT CRASHED in Varginha. This report fell into forgetfulness. It would be interesting if the ufologists checked it out, because nobody spoke a word about this anymore. (...) ".

Alien have been autopsied by a Unicamp team - by Eduardo Mondini

" I'm close to the investigations, helping Ubirajara and Pacaccini with information from Campinas.(...) We're verifying the involvement of Unicamp (University of Campinas) and of IML (Instituto MΘdico Legal - Institute of Legal Medicine), and we suspect specially that the legist Badan Palhares have been heading the necropsy studies on the creature. We have no doubts that the ET have been brought to Unicamp and then autopsied. "

" We managed to contact the IML and the Army's quarter in Campinas, but both authorities deny the exhumation. However, we found a military from Campinas who allegedly saw a document over his commander's desk, proving the ET had been in Campinas. We got with an employee of IML the information that on January 20-26 1996 there have been military movement inside IML, in the Army's private drawers, in order to get a body in or out there. "

Varginha Case : the beginning of a new era in Brazilian Ufology - by A.J.Gevaerd , Editor

" The Varginha episode is a clock bomb whose wick was lit by these brilliant researchers. A bomb that put on alert all the brazilian UFO community (...). Never, in all Brazilian Ufology history, the researchers have been so united, from South to North, seeking together the same truth. No touchable evidences - by Daniel Machado de Avila.

" I have been in Varginha for two days last July [1.996] and later in Campinas, and I have interviewed several people from hospital staff and others in Varginha, getting nothing but denials. I see this case cannot be considered a strong case at all, since there are no touchable evidences of the alleged capture. Weak testimonies from teenagers, secret testimonies allegedly given by military people (but not shown to the public) and a lot of rumours is all we have to the present. (...) ".

Daniel Machado de Avila is a former military from the Brazilian Air Force and also a renowned UFO investigator from Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil. He has already been in England to investigate the crop circles and also in Switzerland to check the controversial Edward Meier's Case out.

The statements from Vitorio Pacaccini and Ubirajara Rodrigues, saying that the Fire Department captured ETs in Varginha (MG) [State of Minas Gerais], contradict the word of Pedro Alvarenga, commandant of Fire Department's 13 th Company, who said the corporation wasn't called to attend local ocurrences on January 20th 1996. The commandant affirmed that, because they work in public areas, they wouldn't manage to hide the case from the press or the ufologists. He also said that the researchers are trying to involve the Fire Department, the Military Police and the Army with the fact. He claimed that "it would be impossible to hide the case. The emotional aspect of the men involved would change, because it's not a usual capture, and there have not been any change."

However, Ubirajara and Pacaccini assure they have military witnesses who confirm the fire fighters' involvement attending an occurrence at about 10 :30 a.m. that day in Jardim Andere. According to the witnesses, the firemen arrived at the place with four soldiers in a fire-engine. They found a weird creature in the place and the Army observed closely the whole operation.

The commandant stated that "that Saturday, I wasn't in the quarter. The name of the Fire Dept. has been involved in a casual way, I don't know, but I think there was no truth regarding this." Captain Alvarenga said the witnesses are not military at all, because "if they would, they'd talk something to the press. Even the population would ask for more facts and evidences that everything really happened". But, according to the ufologists, if the witnesses reveal their names, they would be risking their jobs and harming their lives. Besides, Ubirajara and Pacaccini recognized the witnesses' credentials.

The press tried to take photos and to obtain interviews, but the firemen resisted. The commandant tried to justify it, blaming Rede Globo [Globo TV Network], because they did a story on the subject. According to Captain Alvarenga, the Fire Department didn't want to expose itself, in order to avoid complications with the media. "The things complicated because the day people were talking about this creature, it had been a corpse exhumation in the city, and the victim's family thinks the own police killed the boy".

However, according to a fax received on May 24th, from the Institute of Legal Medicine, which is subordinated to the Minas Gerais State's Secretary of Public Security, the body indicated as belonging to JosΘ Maria Misael Filho, 23, was exhumated in the Institute, which in fact is located on the Regional Hospital premises. It is written in the official report that the necropsy has been made on January 30th, in other words, more than a week after the witnesses affirm they saw the movements in the hospital.

Alvarenga denied the Fire Department participation in the transport of this corpse and said that "the fire fighters unit of Tres Coracoes is closer to the Army, therefore it may has been called to some operation with ESA or to transport the victim".

CONTRADICTIONS - We said to the commandant that what he was telling us was strange and contradictory, because before that interview we had made contact with Mr. Adilson Usier, director of Regional Hospital, who affirmed that the Varginha Fire Department had participated in the corpse transport. Captain Alvarenga, then, said it was a mistake of Mr. Usier.

According to the commandant, "the ufologists involved with the research of this case, Ubirajara and Pacaccini, are imagining everything and making use of the situation, trying to put their names in the media". Pacaccini defends himself : "I'm a very respected person, either in my profession either in my private life. I've never needed the ufological research to promote myself ". The same we can say of Ubirajara.

Many people who didn't believe in anything about UFOs started - at least - to suspect of something wrong after the case blew wide open. Everything is becoming very controversial. We know, for instance, that after we've made that press conference mentioning the names of the military involved with the case, military officers have already came from Brasφlia to Varginha. Nobody ever imagined the things would reach this point. Even within the armed forces everything was hot-like-fire. The officers were crazy to know who had spreaded information that was not to be spreaded. One of our witnesses asked not to talk to us again, because was afraid of being "eliminated".

(...) Our phone lines and the lines of other brazilian ufologists are electronically bugged. We 've received a recent confirmation of it, from secure sources. We are afraid that something happen to us. (...)

It is much likely that the phone line of CBPDV [ Centro Brasileiro para Pesquisa de Discos Voadores - Brazilian Center for Flying Saucer Research, which edits brazilian "Revista UFO" - UFO Magazine, Editor A.J.Gevaerd ] is also bugged, because everyone knows that the ufological information always converge to this magazine. (...) The ufologists only now are realizing the seriousness of everything. We have always condemned the worldwide UFO cover-up plan and the Roswell case manipulators, but we had never faced before constituted powers, national and close to us.

SECRET OPERATION - (...) I know I'm not lying about this case, I am absolute sure of what I am saying and the truth must be revealed. There isn't in the Brazilian Constitution one single article that prohibits the ufological research and that's enough reason for us to continue. (...)

If there is the possibility for us of being sat over an atom bomb, what about the future of ufological research, that had been fighting against this secrecy for over 50 years ? (...) Everything have always been done in absolute secrecy. However, to our luck, this time the information have leaked out. We know the situation here is very delicated, but this is NOT gonna stop or hinder our investigation.

Lawyer in Varginha and a former military, Mr. J.C. (initials are fictitious, his real name cannot be revealed) witnessed the military movements in the city the same week the girls sighted the creature. "After the girls had seen the creature, almost nobody noticed, but there were VASP planes [Note from T. : VASP : a brazilian airline company] over Varginha, in a very low altitude. I also saw the Army combing the area, there were a lot of military people in the place. Nobody noticed anything".

J.C. described the planes that flew over the city as being two F-5. (...) He said they were NOT in the natural formation, they were in some attack formation ... (...)

However, the most important fact witnessed by him was the presence of Army vehicles near a wood (close to where the researchers affirm the ET has been captured). He was passing there and saw a truck carrying about seven soldiers. He didn't know what would be the intention of these men there : "They were walking around the area, combing the way. They wore green campaign uniforms (camouflaged). (...) Some of them were in plain clothes and they walked in groups of two. More people also saw them, I wasn't the only one to see. They disappeared mysteriously, I think they realized that they were been watched".

Some days later, J.C. heard in a bus stop near to his house [in Jardim AmΘlia II neighborhood, Varginha] some people commenting on the story. These people said that in the same day he heard the planes, they heard the sound of three shots that seemed to be rifle shots. A person who J.C. knows have more details : "At the time I was going down the street, I heard the shots, I don't remember which time it was. They went out the woods with two sacks, but this I didn't see. As they told me, it was campaign sacks." According to the lawyer, one of them was motionless, but the other was moving, it seemed that it had something alive inside it. Soon after this operation, the trucks vanished. Some curious people tried to comb the place, but they didn't find anything. It all happened at about 10 : 30 a.m..

TAKING A SHORT-CUT - But J.C. reveals that this was only the first catch operation. According to his testimony, there was a second one, which took place between 1:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. that same day. When he was leaving his office, early that afternoon, he saw a truck leaving the city and stopping at the opposite side of an earthwork short-cut. (...) .

On April 21st 1996, at 9 p.m., Mrs. Therezinha Gallo Clepf, 67, a housewife, sighted a strange creature at PaiquerΩ Restaurant, which lies in the Zoo-Botanical Woods of Varginha (MG), where she lives. We've been in her house so as to interview her : "I was in a party in the zoo restaurant and I went out to smoke a cigarette in the porch, (...) and saw the creature in the porch's parapet, only from the neck upwards". She affirmed for sure that it wasn't any zoo animal.

Mrs. Therezinha became very frightened, and freezed, staying this way for about five minutes, looking all the time to the creature, without making any gesture. (...)

GOLDEN HELMET - According to her story, the difference between the creature she saw and the one observed by the girls was the helmet she saw covering the creature's head, which stopped her (from) seeing the ears and horns that probably it should have (based on the girls' description). The rest was similar : the being had also dark brown skin, bright and oily, a rounded face, red eyes, and didn't have cheeks, nor beard, mustache or nose, and, on the lips position, it had only a cut.

(...) Mrs. Therezinha was close to the creature, about four meters long, according to her. Still today, almost two months after the incident, she is afraid of sighting the alien again. (...)

Some days after Mrs. Therezinha had seen the ET in the zoo, five animals were found dead in the place, and the zoo biologist, Dr. Leila Cabral, don't have an explanation for such deaths. An examination was made in the animals and, in the result, it is reported that " ... in the stag, the reason of death suggests the presence of caustic toxic substance (...), the other animals have completely unknown causes" . The medical official report just suggests (doesn't confirms) the presence of this kind of toxic. There is no real reason for the deaths of the other four animals.(...)

VARGINHA : CITY VISITED BY UFOs - Varginha is located 300 km [or 186 miles] long from Belo Horizonte, in the southern Minas Gerais region [Brazil]. (...) It has about 110.000 inhabitants. The city (...) is situated in an strategic point of ufological activities, where there are constant sightings and close encounters of many kinds.

The Southern Minas is internationally known as a region inclined to extraterrestrial activities. Cities close to Varginha, such as Sπo TomΘ das Letras, TrΩs Coraτ⌡es, Conselheiro Lafaiete, Pouso Alegre and others, also present countless records (...). In the last months, the number of cases increased frightfully. In practically all the cities of this region people are seeing flying saucers. The objects appear publicly, being seen by many witnesses at the same time. In some cases, they let themselves to be filmed or photographed.

WHO BELIEVES IN THE VARGINHA E.T. ? - Joπo Ubirajara Nogueira, engineer, owner of "La Neve" ice-cream shop, located in the center of Varginha, organized a poll between February and April 1996, with the following question : "Do you believe in the Varginha ET ? ". In this period, there have been interviewed 1910 people; 1530 people answered "yes", they believe in the ET, 330 said "no", and 50 didn't answer. In other words, more than 80 % of the city's population believe that something happened in Varginha and it wasn't from this world. (...).

Editor A.J.Gevaerd : Mrs. Luisa Helena da Silva is mother of Liliane and Valquiria. On April 29 th 1996, at about 10 p.m., 4 well-dressed men went to her house with the purpose of bribing her, with money and goods, if their daughters deny the whole story, belying their previous account. (...).

Luisa Helena da Silva : " I cannot say who are these people who tried to bribe me, because I 've never seen them and I don't know them either. But I know that, on a Monday, about two weeks ago, they came here at 10 p.m. . I don't know why they came in the evening, I think it was in order to nobody recognize them in the street. I don't use to receive visits this time of the day. They were four men, all using dark sneakers and suits. Two of them apparently had 40 years old and the others were youngers. Two of them were white and two were brown. One of the whites was too white, it seemed to be a russian. They didn't seem to be military. I thought, at that moment, that it could be police people, but I don't think so. What I know is that these men, for sure, are not from Varginha. But two of them had the accent of the Southern Minas region."

BRIBERY ATTEMPT FAILS - " (...) Only me and three of my daughters were at home : Liliane, Valquφria and Fernanda, the younger, who was already sleeping. They clapped hands in front of the gate. Valquφria went to attend and said that there were four men outside. (...) While I was in my bedroom changing my clothes, they went into my house, didn't wait to see if they could or not, they came and entered, invading my house. They spoke my name, as if they already knew me, saying that they want to "chat" with me and with the girls about the ET they have seen. They said that that time was the only time they could be here and asked me to lock the gate because it was a private conversation and I couldn't receive any visit. I've got afraid but, anyway, Valquφria went outside to lock the gate."

" (...) I asked if Ubirajara have sent them here. One of them said that they had nothing to do with Ubirajara and that I should forget him. After they have heard the girls, I asked them who they were, they told me that it wasn't of my business. They asked my daughters what were their dreams, which was my job, how much was my salary, where my husband worked and if the house was mine. They wanted to know which was my major concern and if the girls were working. (...)"

" If I gave my word that I wouldn't speak anything about their visit - specially to Ubirajara and to Pacaccini - they would make an excellent proposal to me. They said they were "the gold mine that we have never thought to have". They said they knew I was poor. (...) They made an offer to me, saying it was irresistible, that they didn't wanna buy me, but that this help was millionaire. "

"(...) I have no quietness anymore, because after the interview I gave to "Fantßstico", I don't know what can happens. (...) As I was afraid, I gave them my word. They said they wanted me to come with my daughters, and nobody else, to talk in a TV station, not at that little local station, but in a bigger station outside of Varginha. I should belie everything, say the girls had never seen anything, and some more things I would have to rehearse with them. (...) They said they would pay cash. (...) ".

" I became so puzzled that I didn't ask how much was it. They only said that I could buy a house, pay my debts and stop working as a maid. I became so nervous and worried ... I asked if there wasn't a phone number I could call another day to give the answer. I said I had to think. They didn't accept and said they would come back. (...) ".

" After we appeared in "Fantßstico", talking about the bribery attempt, I'm sure that they will come back. Pacaccini knows about my [situation of] life and if somebody appears with some help, of course I'm gonna thank. But I wouldn't let my daughters lie, specially regarding this very serious matter. Even being so humble, they are NOT gonna lie. They speak the truth from the heart, there are a lot of people involved ... ".

" For now, I'm still working in the same job, but I heard a conversation that it will last only for this month, because there are a lot of people calling to my work. I don't know how they found out the number, it seems there is a person who watches us, it's too much nuisance. I'm working and then people start calling to my work, asking to talk to me. (...) To be honest, my life turned into a hell after everything happened.".

Nowadays, the means of communication have a regulating role in our society. They control the flow, quantity and quality of information to be spreaded. Several episodes of History were directly influenced by the media (...). In Ufology, it's not different : the means of communication, specially at this end of century, are essential to a reeducation on this subject. (...)

Nobody can indulge oneself in keeping an information only for one's own. The world have changed. So as Ufology. (...).

Ufology is becoming more and more accessible. There are news coming from everywhere, and it is impossible to ignore it. One great example of this is the Varginha Case which, once spreaded through the mass media, have created great controversy and aroused the public interest for criticism, information and even jokes. However, the most important in this Varginha Case's exposure was the reaction of the institutions that, according to Ubirajara and Pacaccini, are involved in the capture operation of two biologically non-classified beings.

As they realized that their secret activities could be detected at any moment, certain members of the Army, Fire Department, Military Police, health service and universities had a defensive attitude. In other words, they showed much more concern than they should ... To Ubirajara Rodrigues, this was the result of a pressure that only the press could make against the authorities : " We have to admit that the media is the major ufologists' weapon. If we didn't pass everything on to the media, the case would be stagnant ... At the moment we realized that the things were getting dangerous to us, we soon gathered the [major brazilian] ufologists and decided to divulge everything through the media".

Pacaccini, without any fear, affirmed (...) : " I am not afraid of saying that the worldwide Ufology owes a lot to people like Luiz Petry, producer of "Fantßstico", who is producing the program's reports with an incredible seriousness".

However, the researchers haven't revealed yet all the information they have. There are a lot of details about the case that need to be cleared up and publicly said, but this haven't been done yet due to security reasons, specially the witnesses' security. They assure that, when the right time comes, everybody will have access to all the information on the creature secretly captured in Varginha.

*** Ufologist Claudeir Covo : " (...) Although the military and civilian authorities deny everything, several sources have decided to talk. One of these sources affirms that a local farmer killed one of the beings with a gun.".

" Another source said he saw a lot of military people on plain clothes, tracking the little Jardim Andere woods, in Varginha. One of these men would have shot, for three times, an alien creature in the chest, killing it almost instantaneously. The gun would be a FAL-type [FAL - Fuzil de Artilharia Leve, or Light Artillery Rifle] . These situations are still under investigation; we do not have yet recorded testimonies of military sources about these firings, but the investigation is ongoing ".

" (...) Which right the human beings (civilian or military) would have to murder alien beings ? What is foreseen in the Brazilian Constitution ? What about the other countries' legislation ? Looking thru the religious side, what says God's Laws, or the Ten Commandments ? (...) " .

*** Ufologist Marco Antonio Petit : " (...) Recently, new information [on Varginha Case] started to arise, including the one who says there are metallic fragments of a crashed space ship, which documents this mysterious aspect of the case. This material may be connected to the UFO sighted at daybreak of January 20th 1996, because it was releasing something that seemed to be smoke, and it moved slowly. ".

" (...) We live the last moments of a process that will put our Humanity face to face with a reality that we may not be prepared to face. Fifty years of lies may lead a considerable part of the population into an abyss (...). Something very important will happen in the next years and the Governments must assume their responsabilities, while they still can do something, because time is running ... " .

THE VARGINHA CASE

The Varginha Case is unique in many ways. First of all, it's an once-in-a-lifetime shot for UFO-researchers to have a really "hard" case in their hands. UFOlogists that has great insight from their studies of previous cases from the 40's and up to date. UFOlogists as Stanton T. Friedman and John Carpenter, who to many represents the "famous elite". But also well renowned men like the local investigators Ubirajara Franco Rodrigues and Vitorio Pacaccini (who were the first two to investigate and blew the case right open), A.J.Gevaerd (MUFON's representative in Brazil). Men like Stanton T. Friedman who is an expert in the legendary Roswell-incident and knows how the secret-machine works, an insight that will be vital when it comes to finding out what has happened to the EBE's (Extraterrestrial Biological Entities) that are supposed to have been transferred alive to Albrook Airforce Base in Panama.

My intention with this article is to try to make a thorougly presentation of the case with all vital information available from researchers in USA and Brazil to this date. To my help I have two of the researchers that went down to Brazil and Varginha to get first hand information from local researchers - Stanton Friedman and John Carpenter. And then I have all the reports from a number of brazilian investigators, along with articles in UFO magazines and daily news media. I also like to thank Paulo H.Andrade and Ricardo Varela Correa for double-checking my information. As I hope you understand - I can't personally speak for the veracity of all this information as I have only gathered what the local researchers has presented. But as Bob Marley sang "time will tell".

As the investigation still is ongoing the names of "delicate" witnesses are withheld to protect their familys and most of all themselves. To this category I place military and hospital staff, and some authority-personal. I'm sure they will be presented in the near future. I must mark that the witnesses names are NOT withheld by ME, but by the local researchers.

Varginha is a city of 120,000 people, is located in Brazil's Minas Gerais state and the main incident happened in the northern part of the city between January 20-22, 1996. But let's not get ahead. There is an incident prior to the main event.

NORAD WARNING OF A UFO GOING DOWN - Around midnight between January 19-20 NORAD (North American Air Defense Command) contacts their Brazilian alike CINDACTA (I Centro INtegrado de Defesa Aerea e Controle de Trafego Aereo or Integrated Center on Air Defense and Air Traffic Control) and warnes them of a UFO coming down over southern parts of Minas Gerais state. This is witnessed and leaked by both a Brazilian Air Force man and an employee at the radar facility at Air Force Base VI Comar, who received the information, all this according to John Carpenter and Ricardo Varela Correa.

On January 20, after midnight, at aprox. 1:30 AM the farmworkers-couple Augusta and Eurico Rodrigues were wakened by the roams of the farm-cows and sheeps. As they looked out the window to see what was up they saw the animals running from one side to the other. As they looked up the sky they saw a silent UFO without lights. John Carpenter gives us an image of the UFO :

"It was a submarine-shaped "mini-bus" that was trembling like a curtain and emitting smoke or fog as it descended to at least 5 meters above the ground. A military witness now admits that it crashed and he was part of the debris retrieval. Material was twisted and lightweight. (source : A.J. Gevaerd in my video)" .

The Rodrigues couple's farm is placed in a coffee district located 10 kilometers (6 miles) northwest from the town of Varginha, midway between Varginha and Tres Coracoes. The house sits at the edge of the road. And the UFO is believed to have crashed between 1:30 AM and 5:00 AM that night... An American civilian was present when the cigar-shaped UFO was loaded aboard a flatbed truck in the early morning of January 20 - a saturday, according to Brazil's UFO Magazine. Between the alleged crashsite and the outskirts of park Jardim Andere, where the EBE later on was first spotted and captured, lays a forest. A probable scenario is that a number of EBE's outlived the crash and went by foot (!?) through the woods and ended up in the park of Jardim Andere 6 miles southeast. Local people immediately associated this spaceship with the EBE's who appeared 7 hours later. There has also surfaced statements by a military source that a farmer (not Rodrigues) shot one of the EBE's that crawled out of the crashed cigar-shaped UFO.

FIRST EBE CAUGHT IN CITY PARK - According to John Carpenter - this is his description of the park : "Jardim Andere is a district or suburban neighborhood where some houses are under construction. There is a grassy slope toward some woods between this district and the Santana district nearby".

8:00 AM college student Hildo Lucio Galdino, 20, who lives in the Jardim Andere section of Varginha, has reportedly told UFO investigators Ubirajara Franco Rodrigues and Vitorio Pacaccini that he saw one of the alien survivors shortly after 8 a.m. that morning. Opening his bathroom window, Hildo looked out and saw "a creature with oily dark brown skin crouched in the alleyway." The alien, which Hildo described as having "very small hands with three extremely long fingers, kind of like a starfish", ran away when Hildo cried out. The creature had no hair and no clothing and was 4-5 feet in height.

Several calls comes to the fire department (as early as 7:00 AM) about some wild animal on the loose in the northern city-park Jardim Andere, like a jaguar or a peccary. And in a confidential taped interview a sergeant of the firestation confirms that at 9:00 AM the Fire Department of Varginha was required to capture a strange animal in the area. When four firemen arrived in a fireengine, they noticed that it was not a strange animal at all, and they also found the military already on the spot. The man in charge who send the four firemen to Jardim Andere to check the situation was Major Maciel. These firemen, at the moment they arrived there, called the major thru radio and asked him to go there too as the situation was more complicated than they thought. The Major arrived aprox. 10:30 AM, but by then the capture of the EBE was already done. It was done with a net for wild animals and they used common gloves, but were afraid of radiation. According to witnesses on spot there were some people, including children who throwed some stone towards the EBE, who appeared apathic to the way he was treated. He only gave away a noise similar to bees buzzing. The address of where the EBE was captured is in front of the house at Rua Suecia 3, Jardim Andere. The EBE was then placed in a wooden box with a white plastic canvas-cover, stretched hard to really make insight impossible, and transported away by an army truck. The military and firemen on the site was :

All this is backed by a witness on the inside of the fire department with access to several classified information. Also by civilian witnesses like Henrique Jose da Silva.

THREE SHOTS - At the same time as the firemen capture the first seen EBE, more witnesses observed strange movements. A lawyer in Varginha and former military witnessed two planes that he recognized as F-5's, at very low altitude. As a former military man he noticed the planes were not in natural formation but in attack formation. He also witnessed army vehicles near the woods (close to where the firemen captured the EBE). He was passing there and saw a truck carrying about seven soldiers in green campaign uniforms (camouflaged) and some of them in plain clothes.

There is even more witnesses to their activity. A friend of this witness was in another position and says that he heard three shots and that the soldiers came back from the woods with two campaign sacks. One motionless and one moving. Another source has come forward and revealed that one of the soldiers shot one EBE three times in the chest and the creature died instantaneously. The gun would be a FAL-type (FAL - Fuzil de Artilharia Leve, or Light Artillery Rifle). The details around this are still being investigated by researcher Claudeir Covo. The military and fire department operation was held very quiet and smooth and both firebrigade and military did withdraw around 10:30-11:00 AM, along with the second military operation (which fired three shots). The net-caught-EBE is said to have been moved directly to the Escola de Sargento das Armas (ESA) - a military school in the town of Tres Coracoes, 25 kilometers from Varginha. The next following days a summerized number of 6 living EBE's and two dead was locked up at the ESA-base. Some curious civilians combed the park as the military/S-2 personal had left in their trucks, but found nothing. There is also information of a later S-2 (Brazilian Army secret service) operation at aprox. 7:00-8:00 PM on January 20, where an unnumbered of EBE's was caught in the park.

A total sum of 8 EBE's :
1 dead
2 injured (1 later dead)
5 unhurt and living.

The lawyer who made the observation around 10:30 AM above says that he noticed another searchteam arriving at 1:30 PM stopping at the opposite side of an earthwork shortcut, as he was leaving his office. Another witness speak of a S-2 search-team in civilian clothes (haven't been able to find out how they was identified as S-2 men) around 1:30-2:30 PM in the same area. These two reports are probably of the same operation. They are believed to have found nothing.

THREE GIRLS STUMBLES ON ANOTHER EBE - Around 15:30 PM on the same sunny Saturday afternoon three girls, two sisters - Liliane Fatima Silva (16), Valquiria Fatima Silva (14) and their friend Katia Andrade Xavier (22 which has three kids), was on their way home (lives at Rua Tapajos - Tapajos Street) from their jobs as housemaids. As they are walking in the middle of the pathway in Jardim Andere (2 kilometers from the town center), Liliane Fatima looked over her left side and screamed. A creature with three protuberances on the head and dark greasy skin was about 7 meters away next to a wall of an old garage. The creature was squatting on the ground like it was hurt. This is from the Brazilian magazine "Isto E" :

"It was squatting, with the long arms between its legs", recalls the girl. "At first I saw the eyes, enormous and red." Frightened, Liliane turned her back to the creature, while her sister Valquiria and her friend Katia continued to observe. "It was not animal or human, it was a horrible thing", says Katia. "It looked dumb, didn't make any noise", adds Valquiria. The creature, however, appeared to move slightly with the head and the three girls run away.

Forty minutes later, the mother of Liliane and Valquiria, Luiza Helena Silva (38), went to the spot to look for what had frightened her daughters (her husband Jose Lopes da Silva was at work as a bus conductor). She found nothing except a peculiar smell which other witnesses, who heard the rumour and hurried to the spot where the EBE was seen, described as ammoniak. The same smell was later reported independently by personal at the General Hospital where the alien was brought on the evening of January 20th.

Harvard professor and abduction researcher Dr. John Mack went down at the end of May and made a recorded interview with the three girls. To Carpenter, Mack has said :

"He would stake his career and his license on those three girls being truthful".

During the afternoon people are watching a number of armytrucks on patrol in the city and around 7:00-8:00 PM the military from the Escola de Sargentos, along with officers from the military police secret service (called P-2) once again entered the park (according to John Carpenter it happened at 11:00 PM) and captured an injured EBE (I haven't found any testimonys from witnesses to this capture). This capture was much more discreet that the first (10:30 AM), because the military arrived in plain clothes, using civilian cars. The creature was in the area, near the woods, where the military surrounded it and caught it.

EBE TAKEN TO REGIONAL HOSPITAL - The EBE was immediately taken to the General Hospital in the town center where the doctor ordered that the creature must be moved on to the bigger and better equipped Humanitas hospital, where it was easier to maintain and hide from curious civilians. The Humanitas hospital is also located 1,5 kilometers from the town center (Varginha has 3 hospitals in all). A few nurses and personnel from Regional General Hospital had confirmed some facts and they were all suppressed. Individuals who had contacts with the second creature were advised to avoid press and UFO researchers and not to talk about it with anyone, not even their families or relations.

Researcher Ubirajara Franco Rodrigues came in contact with one of the nurses who was reluctant at first to talk about the commotion at the Regional Hospital but later revealed that one of the hospital-sections was closed for some hours in order to avoid access of employees, patients and visitors and that physicians came in from another town than Varginha. According to her testimony, the director said that all that movement should be ignored, because "it was just a training for the doctors and military personal". According to the witness (a nurse) the meeting culminated with the following statement from the director :

"Here in Varginha there are people who like to deal with "cool things", I mean, supernatural, strange... It is probable that these people will look for you, specially that lawyer Ubirajara. TO THESE PEOPLE YOU MUST DENY EVERYTHING. I mean, do deny."

Police and armypersonal were guarding the closed hospital-section during the hours where the EBE was. But a number of civilians saw the creature closely and the rumour continued.

Another witness, a friend of Ubirajara himself, revealed that she had been in the hospital entrance at 10:30 PM, together with a friend of her. She asked the receptionist if it was true what the rumours said about the "little monster" received at the hospital. The employee confirmed, but also said that the creature had been moved to the Humanitas hospital. This is said to have happened around midnight between January 20, Saturday, and Sunday 21. So the nurse probably didn't know that the creature was still in the hospital waiting to be transported, but in the closed section. The transport was operated by the firebrigade.

Captain Alvarenga of the fire-brigade denies any participation from the firebrigades part to have moved the - now dead - EBE to Humanitas hospital. But right before he denied that Ubirajara had been in contact with the Regional Hospital director Mr. Adilson Usier, who confirmed that the Varginha Fire Department had participated in the corpse transport. Captain Alvarenga then said it was a mistake of Mr. Usier. Later Mr. Usier denies the statement himself to the Brazilian UFO Magazine, saying :

"We couldn't keep an extraterrestrial here, we couldn't deal with it, nothing but humans."

In the hospital the aliens would be treated by doctor Rogerio (an orthopaedist). He said :

"I don't know how you could waste your time with that kind of stuff, it's nonsense. There's no extraterrestrials" On the other hand the same doctor Rogerio said to a reporter from the Varginha news : "I don't know what it is (the ET), could be a freak (human), but I have never seen anything like it" .

DEAD EBE MOVED TO ESA AND THEN TO CAMPINAS - As all this going on, two Americans is reported to have checked into a motel closeby to the Regional Hospital with strange equipment. They were later observed both at the Humanitas hospital (with the equipment and a camrecorder) and at the restaurant Churrascaria Gaucha, at Avenida Dr. Campos Sales 515 in Campinas, late in the evening of January 21. John Carpenter says :

"Americans were known to have checked into a hotel with fake names who were apparently doctors. I know nothing about any equipment or their presence at the hospital".

All other military personal was forbidden to have their jackets on (!) and to use voice recorders, cameras and camcorders. Firedepartment and military police vehicles were seen outside the entrance with six men, as well as two men from the Army's secret service and some physicians. The two secret service agents met earlier a Lieutenant from S-2, who arrived in a white brown Volkswagen (Fusca type) and stopped beside the "Paes Mendonca" supermarket, in Varginha. Where from they were sent to the Humanitas hospital and were observed entring the hospital.

Mrs. Thereza Starace de Magalhaes Teixeira of Campinas told researcher Ubirajara that her husband, Adalberto, who was in the Humanitas hospital for an operation, saw the dead alien being wheeled out of the morgue on a gurney.

The dead alien was kept at Humanitas hospital for aprox. 30 hours before it was moved to the Escola de Sargento das Armas (ESA), where the military personal was stationed during the whole incident. The moving of the dead alien from Humanitas hospital took place at 6:00 PM on January 22nd and was witnessed by several witnesses. The hospital is located right by a little peripherical road, which leads directly to the Fernao Dias-highway, which links Belo Horizonte to Sao Paulo, and that made the transportation very discreet. Although, the drivers of the trucks (3 in all) didn't seem to know what they were carrying and was held outside the hospital area until the transportation started.

"The same convoy would leave the school in Tres Coracoes at 4:00 o' clock A.M., on Tuesday, January 23rd. Destination : Campinas (a much bigger city upstate Sao Paulo) where the "cargo" would have been delivered to another military unit, probably the Army Cadets Prep. School."

"All this operation was coordinated by lieutenant-colonel Olimpio Wanderley Santos", says Mr. Rodrigues. "We have the testimony of an army officer from the Escola de Sargentos in Tres Coracoes who was directly involved in the operation. He describes in detail everything that happened during those days", adds Mr. Pacaccini. In the 42-minute recording, this person says that decomposition had already begun and when the corpse left Hospital Humanitas the smell was pretty bad."

"Interviews with some of the military who participated in this new operation, removing the creature from the Humanitas Hospital, declared that three Army trucks were used, each one driven by two different soldiers. It is believed that three trucks were used to remove only one body in order to [prevent] the soldiers from knowing in which truck it would be transported. The drivers and their [escorts] couldn't see the details of the operations, as they were kept outside the hospital area. Military personnel from the Army Internal Intelligence (called "S-2" in Brazil and extremely violent and repressive) were responsible for getting the corpse from the interior of the hospital, placing it in a box and then in one of the trucks."

This was observed by several people as the police had stopped all traffic to ease the route for the three-truck and Jeep convoy.

On Sunday, June 16, the TV show "Programa de Domingo" identified the men involved in the three-truck convoy that transferred the aliens to Campinas, about 200 miles in distance, on January 23 at 4:00 AM. According to the broadcast, Lt. Col. Olimpio Wanderley Santos commanded the convoy, accompanied by two officers, Captain Ramirez and Lieutenant Tiberio, plus Sergeant Pedrosa from S-2, brazilian military intelligence. Corporal Cirilo and Sergeant Pedrosa drove the middle truck with the aliens inside. The other trucks were driven by Private Vassalo and Private De Mello. Also a Jeep (Engesa type) was part of the convoy. And from the Army Cadets Prep. School where the convoy stayed for 9 hours, meanwhile the dead alien was taken to the University of Campinas , where the famous physician Dr. Fortunato Badan Palhares (he was the one who autopsied German Nazi Mengele, about ten years ago) did an autopsy of the dead EBE. Palhares, as well as any other authority involved, denies any such operation. But personal from the University has been seen in the Jardim Andere park collecting soil and vegetation samples from where one of the EBEs was reported to have been caught. And researcher Eduardo Mondini came up with this :

"We managed to contact IML (Instituto Medico Legal - Institute of Legal Medicine) and the Army's headquarters in Campinas, but both authorities deny the exhumation. However, we found a military from Campinas who allegedly saw a document over his commander's desk, proving the E.T. had been in Campinas. We got with an employee of IML the information that on January 20-26 there had been military movement inside IML, in the Army's private drawers, in order to get a body in or out there."

There is also information of an autopsy made at the Humanitas hospital in Varginha by the same - Dr. Fortunato Badan Palhares, and Dr. Coradin Nesve. And that the dead alien later was taken to the Amarais Cemetery near the University of Campinas, where it was frozen for shipment. But probably it is the same autopsy made at Campinas University and the body later frozen, also in Campinas.

At 9:00 PM, the 6 living EBEs were driven to Campinas airport where they were put aboard a twin-engined EMB Buffalo owned by the Forca Aerea Brasileira (Brazilian Air Force) and flown to Sao Paulo, where they changed plane to a U.S. Air Force C-17 transport plane. THE ALIENS WERE THEN MARCHED ABOARD THE C-17. And according to sources in the Sao Paulo tower, the C-17's destination was Albrook Air Force base in Panama. And there the trail disappears... If the two dead aliens were aboard, we don't know. But researcher Claudeir Covo says that he has been given independent statements from several guards that one of the dead aliens is still at the University-lab in Campinas :

"Three military men, one from Campinas, one from Jundiai and another one from Sumare gave us that information. They do not know each other" , assures Covo. We are in no doubt about the laboratory real existence. We are now just trying to gain access to it" .

According to Covo, the secret laboratory is guarded and occupied by Brazilian military personnel. The equipment resembles that of a Sci-fiction movie. It's being studied by Konradin Nesve II, a German Professor and forensic expert.

Ufologists are puzzled by the finding last week of 25 mutilated corpses of animals in Souza district, Campinas. According to Covo, 13 dogs and 12 cats have had their eyes plucked out, apparently with the aid of instruments of surgical precision. The sexual organs of male animals had also been cut off before being brought to UNICAMP - University of Campinas.

"All these circumstances point out to some type of research carried out by extraterrestrials on some animals", ended Covo. For him, this case could be related to that of Varginha.

DENYING EVERYTHING - Now, what about the military, fire department and police statements to this incident ?

The military denies everything, up to a point of not even have been in the Jardim Andere park despite witnesses. The military has a problem as 17 of their own personal involved has spoken on recorded testimonys and even camcorders. Among them is a 42-minute tape where a military officer in high position gives every detail of their involvement (this according to investigators Rodrigues and Pacaccini). The military leaders has placed the military-school soldiers at ESA under stricts orders not to talk to the press or UFOlogists.

And then there is the hospital-staff that has given testimonys and statements that confirmes the story. To that we can add the Regional Hospital director's contradictory statements to the researchers and press.

And finally we have a great number of official and "protected" civilian witnesses to the army's several operations and capture of the EBE in Jardim Andere and convoy-movements.

To that, there is a mystic case where a boy of a high placed local politician was founded dead in a police cell a week after the incident. The military has tried to explain the whole incident to be caused by that boy's death and the transportation to the Humanitas hospital. The military means that everything is a mix-up with that, not yet, cleared incident.

This is from "The Wall Street Journal" interview with Captain Calza : "Capt. Calza says he can't vouch for what the three women saw in January. But the activity on the base that fateful weekend, he insists, was anything but otherworldly : New inductees to a sergeant's school went on parade and a truck convoy was driven to the repair shop. Concurrently, at the town hospital, trucks delivered new cardiovascular equipment and an ambulance dropped off an exhumed corpse -- a human body, officials insist."

As I said, the exhumed boy who was found dead in his cell was found A WEEK after the proclaimed incident in Jardim Andere and the hospital. And a military man at the ESA camp has told Pacaccini (on videotape) that he saw a folder about the EBE on a officer's desk. In the folder was a description and drawing of the EBE's hand. This is from Wall Street Journal : "The print is said to resemble what a human hand would look like with the palm flat, and a space opened up between the ring and pinky fingers and the other three digits."

UPDATE - So, this was in January and now it's August/September. What has happened ? Well, details are popping up all the time which has helped me to put together the presentation above for you. According to John Carpenter the researchers involved on location in Brazil, have been getting direct threats over the telephone and problems with the phonelines have continued since that. And UFO's have been observed in almost every city in Minas Gerais, and some of them are photographed and videofilmed.

But one of the most significant developments are the four men that arrived at the home of [Luisa Helena] da Silva, the home of two of the girls who stumbled on the EBE 15:30 PM on January 20. The four men were driving a Navy blue 1994 Lincoln Continental with Distrito Federal (Brasilia) license plates. They all wore white and cream Armani suits. The four men, one Brazilian and three American, offered the mother Luiza Helena Fatima da Silva $20,000 if the girls would go on the TV and say that they made the whole story up. The girls and their mother refused. "They said they would pay cash", "they also said they would come back but we cannot hide the truth", says Mrs. da Silva in UFO Roundup's June issue. And we know that there has been a cover-up at the military school outside Varginha and that all personal has been forbidden to talk to investigators like Rodrigues and Pacaccini. One soldier was arrested as the senior officer thought he was a security-risk. This was confirmed by people inside the base to researchers. And as the incident happened over a weekend and the military school is almost totally empty on weekends, aprox. 98% of the personal is unaware of the details.

Another issue is the continuing sightings of EBE's in the area.

On April 21st 1996, at 9:00 PM, Mrs. Therezinha Gallo Clepf (67), a housewife, sighted a similar creature (according to her description) that the girls saw in the park in January.

She was in a party at the zoo restaurant as she went out to smoke a cigarrette on the porch. She saw the creature in the porch's parapet, only from the neck upwards. Mrs. Therezinha became very frightened and freezed, staying this way about five minutes, looking all the time at the creature on a 4 meter distance, without making any gesture. The difference between her description and the one made by the two da Silva-sisters and their friend was that now the creature had a helmet-like gear on it's head. It was in goldcolor. That stopped her from seeing the creature's ears. The rest was the same description : dark brown skin, bright and oily, a rounded face, red eyes, and didn't have any cheeks, nor beard, mustach or nose, and on the lips position there was only a cut.

Some days after Mrs. Therezinha's sighting of the creature outside the zoo-restaurant, five animals were found dead in the place. The zoo biologist, Dr. Leila Cabral, found traces of some toxic substance in one of the animals. The cause of death to the rest is still unknown and unexplained.

Vitorio Pacaccini also says that there is proof of an existing videofilm made by the army of one (or more) EBE's. First of all : many witnesses saw the army personal carrying a camcorder in the Jardim Andere park on January 20th 10:30 AM (first capture). Two reporters who were in Varginha were also approached by a person who identified himself as the-cousin-of-a-son-of-a-military-man-from-ESA. This person said that he could get access to a film recorded at ESA showing the creatures. He had already shown it to his cousin, who then offered it to SBT (Sistema Brasileiro de Televisao - Brazilian Television System), the second major TV network in Brazil. The boy wanted 70,000 reais ($68,000). He visited the station and discussed the deal with the network director but didn't close the deal and later the boy said that he wasn't able any longer to deliver the video.

Also a daughter of a Military Police-man (16 year schoolgirl) says that she has watched a "horrible film" that showed the captured creatures. As the girl's father realized the situation was dangerous, he vanished with the tape. Pacaccini says that he has many evidences that the film is still located in Varginha.

(...)Of the 120,000 inhabitants [of Varginha], several hundreds saw something strange in the day and following of 20th/Jan/1996, but only a few dozen of people, some civilian and some military, truly national heroes, had the courage to come to the public, or looked for ufologists who are investigating the case, and reported what they saw. Many civilian people had a direct or indirect participation in the facts, but unfortunately the great majority lost courage before the press and the ufologists. (...)

The fear to "open one's mouth", to the military, is perfectly understandable, as the reprisals are grave, that is, military prosecution, humiliation, jail, transfer (invisible punishment), removal, expulsion, etc., but, by the civilian people, it doesn't make sense. Of the countless names that we have in our hands, of people that lost the courage, in the future, in the right moment, will be published by the press. The ufologists in the front line of this case are writing a book, and soon we will have news of a great movie production from North America. Contacts have been done. The Roswell case is small before what happened in Varginha. It won't be strange if Steven Spielberg gets interest for the case. Thus, television, radio, newspapers, magazines, cinema, books, etc., are and will continue to register the historic facts, as well as praising the name of the heroes and revealing the names of those who lost courage. There is still time for those people to look for the ufologists and talk about what they saw and heard. It is a matter of revealing the truth to the public. All the population should stop and evaluate what the press is divulging. It's time to stop teasing and to reflect about the facts. Don't forget that several ufologists who got involved in the Varginha Case are lawyers, entrepreneurs, engineers, medical doctors, etc. Such persons will never "waste time" if there wasn't something of real and concreet in the facts.

[ about the ship sighted by the farm-couple Eurico Rodrigues de Freitas (40) and Oralina Augusta de Freitas (37), at Jan.20 1996, 01:30 AM ] :

The first conclusion drawn by ufologists, not a definite one, is that the ship had one of its ends damaged by an explosion, which scattered a great quantity of small metal pieces around the region, and the ship still remained in the air during some time and after that it crashed, near to Jardim Andere, probably wounding part of its crew, which seeked for shelter in the woods near the quarter block. THERE ARE MILITARY PEOPLE ASSURING THAT THE SHIP WAS RECOVERED AND SENT TO USA. This fact hasn't been confirmed so far.

[ about one of the EBEs' capture operation, Jan.20 1996, 10:30 AM ] :

From a distance of 100 meters there were some bricklayers and hod carriers, who were filling up a cement slab, and followed all the military movements there. As for the adults and the children who were there, they went up the road, and Henrique Jose de Souza, a bricklayer, asked them what the military people were doing in the gully, and they said they had captured a strange creature. At least two military people assured that this being was kept in captivity in ESA, for 24 hours. After that it was put in a cage, and BY HELICOPTER DEPARTED TO BRASILIA, and after that a jet airplane have gone to the USA with it. Such fact also is still not confirmed.

[ about the creature that was shot three times in the chest, Jan.20 1996, 2:00 PM ] :

(...)A military person in Campinas said that one of the creatures was helping another lying on the ground, apparently wounded. Perhaps this creature had shown an attack reaction sign against the military people and ended up hit on the chest by three FAL shots. The military person informed that one of these creatures was different from the others, with black fur covering its body. Such information is still not confirmed and is under investigation by the ufologists.

[ about the operations in the Humanitas Hospital, Jan.21 1996, 01:30 AM ] :

(...)On the following day, Sunday, cars were observed arriving at Humanitas with number plates from Belo Horizonte, with military people, as well as medical doctors from USP (University of Sao Paulo) and UNICAMP (University of Campinas). We still don't know what kind of treatment the beings have or had, since we don't know if the being that was shot three times (FAL) was also taken to the Hospital. Everything points out that it was. The examination, X-rays, photographs, the films and thousands of other details remained restricted to the military people.(...)

[ about the transport operations from the Hospital to ESA (Jan.22 1996, 4:00 PM) and then to Campinas (Jan.23 1996, 4:00 AM) ] :

The ESA, with the help of three Mercedes Benz trucks, 1418 type, covered with tarpaulin on the top, and many vehicles without identification, surely working for the Intelligence Service (S-2), starts the retreat action of the beings from Hospital Humanitas. A series of manoeuvres to elude, through the town, with the help of portable communication radios and mobile telephones, one by one each truck parked backwards on the side door of the Humanitas Hospital. (...) A special security scheme was made for the arrival of the trucks at ESA. One of them ended up going through a road, against the traffic, right in front of the side gate of the quarter. A special security scheme was made to "take care of the trucks". When the trucks returned to ESA, in Campestre quarter, they were seen by Dr. Marcos A. Carvalho Mina, veterinary doctor in Varginha's Zoo. (...)

A special convoy leaves ESA towards Campinas. A Kombi van is ahead, the three trucks in line and behind other several vehicles without identification. Five hours journey. (...) Employees of the laboratory where Dr. Badan [Palhares] works, thought it strange the fact that, on the arrival of the beings to the lab, they were asked to leave the place, fact that had never happened before.

[ about the activities in UNICAMP's secret lab ] :

At least three military people informed that one of the beings was taken to a secret underground laboratory underneath Clinicas Hospital, inside UNICAMP. They also informed that there is another underground laboratory underneath the Biology Building. And another creature had been taken to one of the IML (Legal Medical Institute) refrigerators where the morgue of the Amarais Cemetery is. Several military people informed they had never seen this place so well guarded as in February, March and April, 1996. Also, the number of military people seen within this period, circulating in UNICAMP was frightening. (...)

[ about debris retrieval ] :

One of the military people informed that in one of the trucks THERE WERE THOUSANDS OF TINY UNKNOWN METAL FRAGMENTS. Probably the fragments are from that ship sighted by the couple, Eurico and Oralina, apparently damaged. Therefore, in this big puzzle, we conclude that the three trucks that went to Campinas were carrying in the first of the convoy a dead being, in the second another dead being and in the third the metal fragments.

[ Military versus aliens in the skies of Varginha and Southern Minas region ] :

January 23rd, 1996 - A Buffalo airplane leaves the Canoas Air Force Base in Rio Grande do Sul state [Brazil]. Inside it there were three containers, a box and many military people. In the first container there were generators, in the second the receiver equipment and computers, and in the third a small workshop. In the box there was a disassembled antenna. In other words, a portable sophisticated radar. The airplane went to the South of Minas. This radar must have been installed in some region or town near Varginha. At this time THERE WERE MANY ALIEN SHIPS FLYING OVER THE REGION. Military people from within ESA said that on a certain night they were worried with the hypothesis of a retaliation from the extra-terrestrials.

[ about U.S. and brazilian military activities inside ESA - Tres Coracoes ] :

At this time, several military people from the USA Army and U.S. Air Force arrived at ESA by helicopter. An area within ESA was interdicted. Several agents from the Intelligence Service (S-2) and from various points of the country were sent to ESA. Local inhabitants, of many years, had never seen such activity in ESA. That was something to call the attention of even the most 'naive'. If they were trying to hide something from the public, they failed in their methodology. The Military people who took part in the operation, and even today, ARE BEING OBSERVED AND FOLLOWED BY S-2. Even today, the situation is not good in ESA. Recently, some of the military people from ESA said that "inside here, things are heating up". They also said that if General Lima and Lieutenant Colonel Olimpio hear someone pronouncing the name "ET" or Pacaccini, they will get at least 10 days in jail.

[ about NASA activities in Campinas' secret laboratory ] :

January 26, 1996 - Several NASA Military officers arrived at UNICAMP [University of Campinas]. The official excuse was that they wanted to select Brazilian scientists to take part in future space missions with the Americans. Probably they were military officers who know deeply the details about flying saucers and extra-terrestrial beings. Military people said that the American military personnel was working together with Brazilian military people inside the underground laboratory. The proportion is 50% of brazilians and 50% of americans. Certainly, if there is a list with the names of the Brazilian scientists, those scientists will only travel in their dreams in the space shuttle. They will remain the rest of their lives thinking about that possibility.

[ about the security scheme inside university's hospital in Campinas ] :

January 28, 1996, 7:50 PM - Mrs. Thereza Christina Starace Tavares de Magalhaes Teixeira, wife of the deceased Mayor of Campinas, Mr. Adalberto Magalhaes Teixeira, was forbidden to enter the "Hospital das Clinicas" (HC) at UNICAMP, where her husband was when sick. She was very upset at the lack of organization of the local security scheme. With the help of a mobile phone, after explaining that she was the wife of the Mayor, on the arrival of Dr. Otavio Rizzi Coelho the problem was resolved, and she was allowed inside. Some people believe that on this night the body of the extra-terrestrial was sent to HC for some type of examination, and the whole place was "closed" for security reasons, resulting in this confusion. Mrs. Thereza entered inside because she was the Mayor's wife. The same didn't occur with other people that were prohibited to enter into HC.

[ about 1996 official agreements in space issues between U.S. and Brazil ] :

March 1st, 1996 - The American Secretary of State, Warren Christopher, signed with the Brazilian Minister of Foreign Relations, Felipe Lampreia, the "Agreement of Cooperation for the Pacific Use of External Space"... A question hangs in the air. Would that be something to do with the Varginha Case ?

March 2nd, 1996 - The general administrator of NASA, Daniel Goldin, visited the installations of the [brazilian] National Institute of Space Research, the INPE, and signed agreements of space cooperation between the two entities. There had been such agreements in the past, but it's the first time that the principal director of NASA comes to the country to get to know the national scientific display. People who are following the Varginha Case, civilian and military, believe that the presence of David Goldin and of Warren Christopher in Brazil involves agreements in relation to the beings captured in Varginha, and also a form of "justifying" the presence of military staff who acts inside NASA at UNICAMP.

[ about the alien sighting in Varginha Zoo's restaurant - April 21st, 1996, 9:00 PM ] :

(...)In 12 days, 5 animals mysteriously died : two deer, a tapir, a blue macaw and an ocelot. (...) The vet Dr. Marcos sent the entrails to Belo Horizonte for examinations. (...) At the time at the end of Jan. 1996, when everyone was commenting about the extra-terrestrials in the town, Dr. Leila Cabral [the other Zoo's vet] met a fireman and joked to him : "You captured the ET and I will look after him". Frightened, the fireman told her to keep quiet and asked her not to comment about it to anyone. (...)

[ about the press conference held by ESA Commander - May 8th, 1996, 11:00 AM ] :

ESA Commander, Brigadier General Sergio Pedro Coelho Lima held a press conference and read a clarifying note, saying that no element or material from Escola de Sargento das Armas had any connection with the alleged facts.

At the end, a reporter from EPTV asked him where were [in Jan.20-22 1996] the other military people that were cited ?
He answered : "working for the Army and the Nation".
EPTV - Can you prove that ?
Gen. Lima - Prove to whom ?
EPTV - To the press.
Gen. Lima - We don't have anything to prove and what I had to say was read in this note.

Thus, Gen. Lima turned his back and left, leaving the reporters totally convinced that something really strange had happened in Varginha.

[ about the brazilian military High Command unprecedented meeting in Campinas base ] :

May 29th, 1996 - In almost absolute secrecy, for the first time in Brazil, a state Minister met with the Armed Forces High Command outside the capital of the country [Brasilia]. A historical fact. The Army's Minister Zenildo Zoroastro de Lucena, along with 29 generals, including the Armed Forces General Staff Chief, Gen. Paulo Neves de Aquino, the chiefs of management and departments and the eight military commanders of the area met together in Campinas, to carry out a task that would easily be carried out by military people of lower rank. [Officially] they visited the Escola Preparatoria de Cadetes do Exercito (Academy School for Army Cadets) to evaluate the EsPCex 2000 project, that aims at getting informatics into education and the creation of a modern teaching environment for the cadets as well as the installation of monitoring system by satellite. After visiting the 28th Armored Infantry Battalion (BAB) to evaluate the 16 computers already acquired from a total of 26, that aim to create administrative procedures and the preparation of soldiers. Thus, they went to EMBRAPA (a Brazilian Research center for Agriculture and related subjects) to get to know the geographic information system.

On the following days, they went to the town of Pirassununga (Sao Paulo state), to the 2nd Regiment of Combat Vehicles, a unity of the 11th Armored Infantry Battalion, to accompany the work being done to receive 40 Leopard Combat vehicles of German make, recently acquired. Military people from various places of the state of Sao Paulo, including the littoral, informed us that on the days before the visit of the Minister in Campinas, several meetings took place in Campinas, in Pirassununga (SP), in Braganca Paulista (SP), and probably also in other states, involving high rank military people. They said that everyone wanted to go to Campinas to look at the strange creatures. Disagreements and misunderstandings even occurred between some military people.

[ about Claudeir Covo's researches in Varginha ] :

June 23rd, 1996, 11:00 AM - One of Ubirajara's friends, from Varginha, kindly provided his Seneca bimotor airplane. During 40 minutes we flew over all the region, from the farm of Eurico and Oralina, until the place where the strange creatures were captured. The main objective was to find out the place of UFO crash. We were looking for a depression in the ground, or for a clearing in the undergrowth or still some burnt area. Unfortunately, we had no success, but the photographic and videos' registers remained in this part of the research, as well as gratitude to the owner of the airplane and his pilot.

[ brazilian Congress supporting the Air Force against UFOs ? ] :

July 3rd, 1996 - In Brasilia, the Congress approves a project that allows the Brazilian Air Force to have powers to shoot down hostile airplanes.

The measure aims to give more power to the Air Force, in its combat against narcotrafic and contraband, being able to shoot down airplanes in clandestine flights who don't respond to identification orders. Of course, everyone now is asking what the Air Force will do if the target is a flying saucer. Certainly, because of former failures, to some extent, the Air Force will accompany the target from a distance, only registering the fact in photos and videos.

[ about the EBE's classification ] :

(...) These beings are classified as Delta types. They are a species of trained animals and used by Alfa and Beta beings in more simple missions, as for collecting minerals and vegetals. They would be a species of simian of extra-terrestrial origin, as well as more intelligent than our simians. The ufologists have classified them as EBEs - Extraterrestrial Biological Entities. (...)

[ about the military official explanations ] :

To explain the great activity by the military people from ESA, it was said that on that day they were greeting the new recruits, being that this occurred one week before. To explain the great movement of Army trucks in Varginha, it was said that the vehicles were envoyed to Automaco Enterprise to balance the wheels and to align the wheels for the driving, being that the vehicles were seen on Saturday and Sunday, period in which the Automaco is not working. (...) To explain the great activity of Military people at Humanitas Hospital, it was said that it was because of the arrival of new equipment to be used in heart transplants. Well, it looks like a joke. What does they have to do with new equipment ? Heart transplant in an extra-terrestrial ? Only an idiot would buy that. (...)

CONCLUSION - The Brazilian Ufologists have no doubt about what happened in Varginha. All that was described here is only a part of the story. Many other facts will be discovered. It's only a matter of time. And the research continues...
